Noah Altman
(GreatGrandfather)
Written By ~ Judy Griffin
Noah Newton ALTMAN was born 15 FEB 1846 • Brantley County, Georgia and died 27 JUL 1919 • Brantley County, Georgia. He was the son of Jacob Altman (1825) and Levicy Dowling (1825).
The Children of Noah and Gertie were Amanda, Arrelia, Flemon Darvey, Charles Hyson, Charlotte Rosetter, Alfred Clarence, Elmore Tinsley, Myrtie Satilla, Vallie Viola and Julia Gertrude.
I have found no information that proves Noah Altman served in the Confederate Calvary but this was an email I received a few years ago.
Bryant Crews who was a Confederate Calvary veteran served with Noah Altman and attested to Noah's service and marriage when Julia Barber Altman applied for a Confederate Widows pension in the year 1919. Bryant Crews and Noah Altman enlisted together and according to Bryant they were together throughout their service and surrendered together at Screven Georgia May,1865. Bryant was also present at Noah and Julia's wedding October 25th 1866, and stated that the service was performed by Ambrose Woodard Jr., Ware County Georgia. Descendant Rick Allen, Columbus, Ohio.
Seen you mention a lot of Crews. One of my longest time brick walls is Elizabeth Crews who married James Altman 1850 Columbia County FL. Any idea who her parents were?
